Before becoming a famous actor, who won a televised contest naming him “America’s Toughest Bouncer”?
Answer: Mr. T was born Laurence Tureaud in the rough south side ghetto of Chicago. Mr. T is known for his distinctive African Mandinka warrior hairstyle, his gold jewelry, and his tough-guy image.
In 1980, he won the NBC televised contest “America’s Toughest Bouncer” which included throwing a 150-pound stuntman, and breaking through a 4-inch wooden door. Sylvester Stallone and the Rocky III casting agent happened to see the program, and were so impressed with T’s toughness that they offered him the role of Clubber Lang.
