What U.S. state is home to the nation’s first Walmart?
In 1962, Sam Walton opened the first Walmart store in Rogers, Arkansas, fueled by the mission of offering consumers “The lowest Prices Anytime, Anywhere.” Over the next few years, he expanded across the state and, in 1969, officially incorporated as Wal-Mart Stores Inc. From there, Walmart continued to go national. By the early 1980s, the company was made up of over 275 stores and 21,000 employees.
