When was the first McDonald’s opened?
Get ready for a lesson from Hamburger U: Brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald opened a barbecue resturant in San Bernardino, California, in the late 1930s.
Originally called “McDonald’s Bar-B-Que,” the brothers realized that most of the customers came out for their burgers, so in 1948 they revised their menu to include simply hamburgers, cheeseburgers, potato chips, coffee, soft drinks and apple pie.
The newly christened “McDonald’s” was a hit, and the brothers looked to franchise it, eventually meeting a young entreprenur named Ray Kroc, to whom they sold the rights to the entire franchise in 1954. Source: McDonald’s
