Which character on Friends sang the song “Smelly Cat”?
Guitar-playing, pigtail-wearing quirky friend Phoebe Buffay filled Central Perk with her silly original songs many times before introducing her most iconic tune, “Smelly Cat.” It was first played on episode 6 of season 2, titled “The One With The Baby On The Bus,” but she continued to sing and strum the tune in different versions throughout the series. Writer Betsy Born admitted she was inspired to write this song by her stinky dog, rather than a cat. Source: Refinery29
Phoebe Buffay-Hannigan is a fictional character, portrayed by Lisa Kudrow, one of the six main characters from the American sitcom Friends. The show’s running gag and one of Phoebe’s trademark characteristics is her song “Smelly Cat,” which she performs at Central Perk. The song is about a cat who is shunned by society because of its foul stench as a result of flatulence (“what are they feeding you?”).
