Who was set to fight Amy Fisher’s ex-lover on Fox’s “Celebrity Boxing” in 2002 until he was forced to drop out because of an arrest for domestic abuse?
John Wayne Bobbitt
Celebrity Boxing was a FOX television show, in which celebrities whose careers and/or notoriety had diminished were pitted against each other in exhibition boxing matches. The contestants wore headgear during the fights, which were scheduled for three rounds apiece. Two episodes of the show were aired.
In 2002, TV Guide ranked it number 6 on its TV Guide’s “50 Worst TV Shows of All Time” list.
TUBE TALK When it comes to ”Celebrity Boxing,” the recent hit special that will enjoy a second round on May 22, Fox seems to have a very expansive definition of the word ”celebrity.”
The night’s biggest draw will probably be the fight between famously feckless husbands Joey Buttafuoco and John Wayne Bobbitt. (You’ll recall that producers sought Buttafuoco’s ex-lover, Amy Fisher, for the first special, but her parole board wouldn’t let her fight. Maybe they can still book Bobbitt’s ex-wife Lorena, known for her nasty uppercut.)
