Johnny Cash, also known as “The Man in Black” was born in Kingsland, Arkansas in 1932. After growing up poor on a cotton farm, Cash decided to join the Air Force in 1950. Once he was discharged in 1954, Cash pursued his dream of music stardom as a singer songwriter, alongside his backing band “The Tennessee Two” (eventually “Three”). Influenced deeply by country, rock ‘n’ roll, gospel and blues, the group put out its first big hits for Sun Records, including “I Walk the Line,” “Cry, Cry, Cry” and “Folsom Prison Blues.” Source: Biography
