Dana Marie Perino[1] (born May 9, 1972) is an American political commentator and author. She was White House Press Secretary, serving under President George W. Bush from September 14, 2007 to January 20, 2009. She was the second female White House Press Secretary, after Dee Dee Myers, who served during the Clinton Administration.[2] She is currently a political commentator for Fox News, while also serving as a co-host of the network’s talk show The Five, and is a book publishing executive at Random House.


Dana Perino currently serves as co-host of FOX News Channel’s (FNC) The Five (weekdays 5-6PM/ET). She joined the network in 2009 as a contributor.

On The Five, Perino is part of a roundtable ensemble of FNC personalities who discuss, debate and even debunk the hot news stories, controversies and issues of the day. Former White House Press Secretary for President George W. Bush, she is the president of Dana Perino and Company, a frequent public speaker on political trends, founder of Minute Mentoring and active in global maternal health and child development through the One Campaign and Mercy Ships. She also helps America’s veterans through Companions for Heroes, which matches rescue animals with vets suffering from PTSD.

Perino served for three years on the U.S. Broadcasting Board of Governors, an appointment by President Obama and confirmed by the United States Senate. She spent over seven years in the Bush Administration working at the Justice Department and the Council on Environmental Policy. Previously, Perino worked on Capitol Hill, in private practice public relations and as a reporter in Illinois and Colorado.

Perino graduated with a B.A. in mass communication from Colorado State University-Pueblo and went on to receive a Masters in Public Affairs Reporting from the University of Illinois-Springfield.
