Where did “La La Land” have its world premiere?
Before the musical masterpiece “La La Land” graced screens across the U.S., and went on to have an outstanding showing at the 2017 Academy Awards, it earned high praise at its premiere at the Venice Film Festival. Even early on, reviewers were vocal about the film’s engaging music, story and acting. Given that a film’s performance at the Venice Film Festival can serve as a good indicator of Academy Award potential, it’s no surprise “La La Land” came away with some big Oscar wins. Venice, the capital of northern Italy’s Veneto region, is built on more than 100 small islands in a lagoon in the Adriatic Sea. It has no roads, just canals – including the Grand Canal thoroughfare – lined with Renaissance and Gothic palaces. The central square, Piazza San Marco, contains St. Mark’s Basilica, which is tiled with Byzantine mosaics, and the Campanile bell tower offering views of the city’s red roofs.
