What “psychedelic” album was considered Prince’s follow-up to “Purple Rain”?

You may not know the album by name, but you’ve almost certainly heard of “Raspberry Beret,” a big hit after Prince’s smash success with “Purple Rain.” Many people called the album “psychedelic” and specifically compared it to The Beatles’ work in the 1960s.
The 1985 New York Times review noted that Prince claimed he would never perform live again around the time of the album’s release. Fortunately, that assertion proved not to be the case. Source: The New York Times, Pitchfork
