What team won the first National Basketball Association Finals?
- Minneapolis Lakers
- Philadelphia Warriors
- Chicago Stags
- Syracuse Nationals
The Philadelphia Warriors defeated the Chicago Stags in the 1947 NBA Finals, winning the inaugural championship series four games to one. The matchup was originally billed as the Basketball Association of America Finals. However, following the BBA-NBA merger in 1949, this series, as well as the two Finals that came after, were officially added to the NBA record books. Warriors forward Joe Fulks, often called the “Babe Ruth of basketball,” was the leading scorer in the 1947 Finals, tallying 222 points over the five-game series.
