The ancient city of Machu Picchu is located in the Andes Mountains in Peru. Created by the Incan Empire at the height of its power, the breathtaking ruins are now a popular attraction for adventurous tourists and history buffs alike. There are about 200 remaining structures at Machu Picchu, which was built in the 15th century and then abandoned in the 16th century after the Spaniards conquered the Incan people.
