This 4-cent Christmas stamp was first placed on sale at the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, post office on November 1, 1962, in conjunction with the annual convention of the National Association of Postmasters of the United States. It remained on sale at post offices through December 31, 1962.
The stamp, designed by Jim Crawford, a Post Office Department artist, depicts the traditional holiday symbols, burning tapers and an evergreen wreath adored with a red bow. It was printed on the Giori press and issued in panes of a 100 stamps each. There was a printing of 500 million stamps.
